 THE HELWICK LIGHT VESSEL

A Sight Specific Response

For this dark room work i submerged the photographic paper and an acetate print of the Helwick light vessel layered on top of each other into a tray of salt water I collected from Swansea Marina and exposed it to the light.

This work is a responses to the Helwick Light Vessel at Swansea Maria the work represents a sensual feeling as your on the vessel but also having the movement of the ocean beneath you. How the boat is floating peacefully but could easily be filled and overpowered by the water. The process represents the importance of the water in the creation of the images instead of just presenting digital images of the boat alone. While highlighting the relationship of the boat to the water,  I also wanted the work to look old, and stormy with smoke and water ripples representing the vessels working past.
